Sunday March 22 - Transferring in Manila

SFO-MNL flight was uneventful, food was pretty good and got to watch "Theory of Everything" before sleeping for ~5 hours 

Day 2 - off to Japan

It's Friday, March 20 in San Francisco and I'm all packed and ready to go to the airport and board the plane to start our three week trip to Japan. 

Because we will cross the international dateline as we go through a short layover in Manila, we will lose a day and end up in Tokyo on Sunday, March 22 - we just missed the national holiday for the Vernal (spring) Equinox, which was celebrated in Japan today (Friday, March 20) as a national holiday.

At the airport I ran into Mona, a colleague from work also heading out on sabbatical/vacation - small world ;-)

Sabbatical Day 1

This is my first day of sabbatical and much of it was spent around the house with the cat, Teddy - enjoying the nice sunny day in San Francisco staring into the backyard.
Actually I did manage to recheck my packing list and go over details before we leave for Japan tomorrow night.
Everything seems pretty much in order - so hopefully tomorrow is another somewhat lazy day and before we know it will be heading out of town.
